Suburbs Men's Senior Rugby 2026 Wrap-up
2026 Senior Rugby
As we conclude the 2026 Senior Rugby season, Suburbs Rugby Club extends its
sincere thanks and appreciation to all players, coaches, volunteers, supporters, and
sponsors. This year has been marked by strong participation, steady development,
and continued commitment to the values that define our club.
Our A’s had a tough season this year with a large number of injuries not helping their
cause.
A couple of highlights for the boys were being able to play on Waikato Stadium at the
beginning of the season along with all the other Div One clubs and the commanding
win over Te Rapa on our 75 th Jubilee weekend.
Unfortunately, they got bundled out in the semi final of the bottom five second round.
Our Women’s team the Filly’s had a very good season with several new players
welcomed into the Filly’s whanau. After a slow start to the season punctuated by
injuries, they finished the season strongly winning their last four games and ended
up with a 6 win, 6 loss record and finished a credible 5 th on the Waikato Women’s
Premiership table.

Our Colts squad started well with good numbers. Unfortunately, throughout the
season the squad was decimated with injuries and unavailability whereby the
management couldn’t name a full squad for game day. The team management made
the tough decision to withdraw the team from the Waikato Colts competition.
Unfortunately, we weren’t the only club who did this through the season.
While it was disappointing to see the squad have to default the remainder of the
season, on the bright side a number of the boys ended up moving up to the B’s
squad where they enjoyed themselves.
Our B’s carried the club colours strongly this year after they won the Div 1B Cup final
against a tough Southern United (SURF) side in a highly entertaining game.
The boys thoroughly deserved their win after their close loss in their final last season
to Pirongia.
Even though training is optional for a lot of the boys come game day they put
everything together and played very well. They ended up winning their last six
games on the trot and ended up with a 12 win, 3 loss record.

75th Jubilee
The undoubted highlight of the year was our 75th Jubilee weekend.
Participants enjoyed a well organised afternoon of golf on the Friday afternoon, with a
lot of laughs, camaraderie, and celebration of the club’s proud history.
The Friday night meet and greet was well attended with a lot of laughs, yarns, tall
stories and old friendships were rekindled and new ones made.
Saturday was the big day with an amazing turnout (175 people) at the celebration
dinner and auction following our A’s and B’s getting good wins over Te Rapa.
There would have been a few sore heads the morning after.

Club Development & Facilities
This year saw the long-awaited refurbishment of the clubrooms and to say they are
looking sharp is an understatement. These enhancements will help support the
long term sustainability of the club.
Looking Ahead to 2027
Planning for the 2027 season is already underway, with a focus on expanding
development pathways, strengthening community engagement, and supporting both
junior and senior programmes. We look forward to building on the momentum of
2026 and continuing to grow as a club.
